Romania’s Constanta port at the crest of the wave

Constanta, Romania (Ports Europe) July 29, 2025 – Romania’s Black Sea port of Constanta is positioning itself as the main commercial hub of the Black Sea, with investments of almost 2 billion euro (1.93 billion), the country’s Transport Minister Ciprian Serban said.

“The Port of Constanta is a strategic hub for Romania and Europe, and the ongoing or preparatory projects will strengthen its role,” Serban said. “I was in the port, invited by the General Manager of the National Company Maritime Ports Administration SA Constanta, Mihai Teodorescu, who presented to me a strategy and projects for the development of this essential facility for the Romanian economy”.

Projects

  • Key projects in the port are:
    • Piers III S and IV S (1.1 billion euro)
    • The road master plan (122.6 million euro)
    • Dredging (142.6 million euro)
    • Midia quays (214.7 million euro)
    • Midia technical ships quay (22.18 million euro)
    • Electrical II (82.41 million euro)
    • MEIAC – water and canal (28 million euro); railway capacity development – phase II (23.8 million euro)Photovoltaic park (11.3 million euro); secure parking near the A4 motorway (43.37 million euro).
  • Several projects have been completed recently
    • An extension to four lanes of the Gate 10 bis – Gate 9 road (12.69 million euro)
    • Infrastructure modernisation and environmental protection (15.03 million euro)
    • Road and parking in the river-sea quay area (3.26 million euro).
  • Being implemented or prepared are also several projects
    • Upgrading the electrical infrastructure (23.05 million euro)
    • Expanding the piers of berths 10 and 12 – Midia Area (16.93 million euro)
    • The E-COLD project for supplying ships with energy from the quay – shore power (18.8 million euro)
    • Expanding to four lanes Gate 7 – Pod Canal (50 million euro).

Another priority mentioned by the minister is the North Dike – Gate 1 section – White Lighthouse, 3,550 metres long. Works include structural repairs, consolidation of slopes, restoration of the concrete wall and installation of stabilopods of up to 25 tonnes of weight.
